Development of Creative Thinking in Children
Source
It's no news that the world is becoming increasingly complex and fast-paced. Meanwhile, we are raising generations of children who are expected to adapt and succeed in this chaos. But are we truly providing them with the tools and mental models needed to cope with this task?
In the educational system, we focus on linear thinking, which is the ability to follow a path from point A to point B and solve problems with a single correct solution logically. Of course, this type of thinking is important, as it allows social integration. However, we neglect another way of thinking, divergent thinking, which is the technical term for creative thinking. It is the ability to look at challenges from different perspectives and the skill to search for multiple distinctive solutions. Unfortunately, this skill is often omitted from the educational system.
Idea
That's why Argeta is launching the first platform for the development of creative thinking in children on the Junior Adventures website. The content is developed according to the principles of Edward de Bono, a global authority on creative thinking, in collaboration with Nastja Mulej, the only creative thinking coach licensed by de Bono in Slovenia. Creative thinking is a skill rather than a given. The earlier we start learning it, the more we will master it. Just like learning anything else. The significance of creative thinking is much broader than what professions with a similar root in the name imply. It's mentioned as a key skill for today and tomorrow by leaders of the most successful global companies. But even more so, it is vital for life itself. Creative thinking teaches children that even if one door closes, they know how to open countless new ones. This is the alpha and omega of contributing to a development of a confident, successful child.
Execution
We are creating 2 e-books where children can choose among alternative storylines. In a single book, they can find 8 different stories, and by choosing the course, they themselves become the main character alongside Duck Junior. In addition to the e-books, we are also creating a large number of games and challenges in which there are no correct answers, but there are countless solutions. Games and challenges encourage children to look at the task from different perspectives and seek connections and solutions that are as interesting and remote as possible. Playing games and solving challenges becomes an infinite playground for developing ideas and seeking distant connections. In this way, children think about what life would be like if they had ears as big as an elephant's, what they could use a pencil for besides the obvious, and who and what they would be if they woke up one morning as a robot, a panda, or a penguin.
